Food for thought (read carefully!)…….
“The demand that God should forgive sinful man while he remains what he is, is based on a confusion between condoning and forgiving. To condone an evil is simply to ignore it, to treat it as if it were good. But forgiveness needs to be accepted as well as offered if it is to be complete: and a man who admits no guilt can accept no forgiveness.
In the long run the answer to all those who object to the doctrine of hell, is itself a question: ‘What are you asking God to do?’ To wipe out their past sins and, at all costs, to give them a fresh start, smoothing every difficulty and offering every miraculous help? But He has done so, on

Welcome to this morning’s Service.
Well, after much hue and cry, the race for the White House is over. The man who was elected on the promise of change, and the mantra of ‘Yes, we can’ now has another, and altogether different race to contend with. He’s delivered the rhetoric, and very convincing he was on that. The question now is, can he deliver the substance, and we and the world will only know the answer to that as events unfold, and as the passage of time casts its verdict on the walk after the talk.
And what a race the President Elect has before him. In a few weeks time he will be fully Mr President, Commander in Chief, the most powerful man in the World, and the object of much hope. He and his team will launch themselves to grapple with the stated promises and aims shouted from the hustings to draw Americans into unity, to change the old guard, and to bring in the new. To overcome the giants of social impoverishment, discrimination, distribution of wealth, and medicine for all, not to mention the contentious issue of the deployment and engagement of military forces in a number of hot spots around the globe.
The race is on, but you and I know that this is a political and social contest which can never be won. Sure, the President will strive and struggle, he must know something of that already to have achieved what he has, against all the odds, and he will undoubtedly inject some new adrenaline into the American corpus; but he will do well to come out of the 4 year term of office with an intact reputation and an undented personal integrity. The real challenge he is up against is the struggle over sin, and he can only change what wants to be changed, and as history has proven over and over again, the heart of man is not for changing, but is perverse.
To overcome that we need to look to the true Commander in Chief, One who truly can bring about real change, and One who can say, uniquely, ‘Yes, we can’, for only He, the Lord Jesus, can deliver and change the heart of man, and bring about a true and lasting peace in unity. And Praise God, He’s not restricted to a 4 year term of office, and He has already overcome public enemy number one - Sin!
Have a blessed week. Keep pressing on. Keep focused on Jesus. God bless, Len
