Patience is a virtue.....
Our involvement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.....
Some time ago Martin & Jane Baskerville, of Burgess Hill, UK, who are members of CCP, shared about some of their experiences with a ministry called Young Ministry Group (YMG) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and how over a period of time that ministry in conjunction with the local pastors and congregations has established and equipped a local center in Uvira, near to the Uganda/Rwanda border. The hub of the center is the Internet Café, a lifeline of communication to a remote area, and from this resource other community projects are planned, all in the name of Jesus.
One of the specific things that caught our attention was the chronic lack of Bibles in this ravaged country. We learnt that even the pastors of large churches are often without a bible, and that to buy one is usually beyond the scope of most people, for whom subsistence is a way of life.
In response to this, we have made 2 donations now to the ministry, totalling £140 with the express purpose of purchasing and distributing as many Swahili language Bibles as possible to relieve this disturbing situation. Jesus said that ‘man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’, and whilst we are acutely conscious that physical bread is a matter of urgency, so is the need for spiritual bread. Our small donation is a drop in the ocean, but the ocean is made up of drops of water, and I’m pleased to relate that a number of Bibles have now been received with much gratitude. We will continue to donate towards this need until the Lord directs otherwise. An additional amount has recently been donated in response to an emergency situation in Uvira.
In addition, Len has been invited to take up the position of International Director (Training development & Pastoral oversight) by Martin who is the International Director (Co-Ordination) YMG International, and Len is currently preparing material for this new role, with a trip to Uvira planned for this summer.
We would value your prayers in this matter as we seek to bring the truth of Jesus to this small part of a huge continent.
